Intimacy
DIRECTION
Intimacy Direction.
Frances started training in intimacy for the stage in 2018 with Intimacy Directors International, the only organization focused on creating safe environments for onstage intimacy at the time. From personal experience, she knew that there was a need to approach the performance of intimate actions on stage as a craft, instead of a guessing game. Frances had witnessed situations ranging from uncomfortable to abusive and was determined to prevent being a director who inspired fear and shame in the singers she worked with. As the need for this type of work has grown, Frances has also trained with Intimacy Directors and Coordinators and Theatrical Intimacy Educators. Her forays into working as an Intimacy Director in opera has been rewarding and she looks forward to continuing this important endeavor.
Frances was the intimacy director for Street Scene at Central City Opera. The piece deals with domestic violence, sexual harassment, and various forms of romantic and sexual intimacy. For questions and inquiries, get in touch with her here.
